The time has come, the walrus said...

Holy crap. It's finally here. Got up this morning, did my thing, and we headed to the airport. Dad drove the Mazda6, which I don't think pleased Mom. She was probably figuring that he'd fall asleep at the wheel, as she usually does. Nevertheless, we slowly but surely made our way to the palatial Albany International Airport. After some last-minute bickering over whether or not I had to check in (I didn't) we began to say goodbye.
My mom got a little teary, not something that I was expecting. I see where she's coming from; I've never been this far away before, nor this disconnected. I promised to e-mail her ASAP. Once I'm in the UK I can call too. After a few final minutes outside the security checkpoint we said our final farewells and I entered the queue. Of course, I forgot to take the netbook out of my bag, so I got flagged and they had to get it out of my bag. Oy. After making it through security, I waved a few final goodbyes to my folks before heading off to terminal A2, where I now sit writing this entry.
My ALB-IAD flight is set to board at 9:52 AM and depart at 10:12 AM, for a short (hour-ish) flight. I have a giant layover in Dulles, so I'll probably update again then!
Is it self-serving to wish myself bon voyage?
