This is mostly an excuse to post pictures.
We had our first "split," so to speak, of the trip. I wanted to check out the Memento Park, where all Budapest's former Communist monuments were put on display after the fall of Communism, rather than destroying them. Marc and Michael didn't particularly care. Thus, when we checked out of the hostel we parted ways- I took a metro, tram, and bus to the Memento Park, and they headed to the Castle District and Labyrinth. We met at around 4pm to take in the refreshing waters of one of Budapest's public baths, fed by natural thermal mineral springs.
We sampled a large outdoor pool (with bubbles!), an indoor 36 degree Celsius mineral water pool, a 50-60 degree Celsius sauna, back to the mineral pool, then to a steam room (so hot and steamy it was hard to breathe!) before heading into a hotter mineral pool and then a cooler one. It was an interesting new experience, rather what I imagine Saratoga to be like (though this was much cheaper), and we felt refreshed and rejuvinated for our night train to Krakow (which was blissfully uneventful).
